Since she was a student, Ferrera has been interested in the acting world. She performed on stage for various school productions and her first film "Real Women Have Curves" that made her famous. While her performance in "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants' gained greater recognition but she was also praised by critics as the main character in the tv show 'Ugly Betty that earned her a number of Best Actress Awards, including the Golden Globe Award, the Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Primetime Emmy Award. The distinctive role she played in "Ugly Betty," as well as her following roles afterwards have made her an "role role model" for the young Hispanic women working in the world of entertainment. Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis felicitated her for that. Ferrera was dubbed as one of the 100 most influential people around the globe in 2007 by Time magazine. Ferrera is both an advocate and an active fan of the Save the Children campaign. As part of her social activities, she travelled to India to meet kids of sex workers, and spread awareness of sex trafficking.
